Mission and Objectives

MISSION OF THE UNIVERSITY PROMISE ALLIANCE:

To promote the Five Promises in the Twin Cities community by utilizing the vision, passion, and leadership of University of Minnesota college students

THE FIVE PROMISES:

(1) CARING ADULTS

ongoing relationships with a network of caring adults--parents, mentors, tutors, teachers, or coaches

(2) SAFE PLACES

safe places with structured activities during nonschool hours

(3) HEALTHY START

healthy start and a healthy future

(4) MARKETABLE SKILLS

marketable skills through an effective education

(5) OPPORTUNITIES TO SERVE

opportunities for young people to lead and give back through community service

OBJECTIVES OF THE UNIVERSITY PROMISE ALLIANCE:

1) Create opportunities for students to gain tangible skills in leadership through the framework of the Five Promises
2) Educate the campus population about the needs of children and youth in the community that surrounds campus
3) Disseminate information which promotes opportunities to serve and lead around the Five Promise framework
4) Develop avenues for students to engage with and learn from University faculty and community partners about the Five Promises
